What does therapy look like?

There are many ways to conduct therapy—or counseling—and many different types of counselors. I use an approach that centers around the client, not the therapist. The relationship that exists between a counselor and a client is of utmost importance to me. I hold the general belief that each person possesses the power to change and, as people, we need to feel safe in order to heal and grow. In a safe relationship, you don’t feel judged. You know you will be accepted no matter what, and you can expect the other person to respond to you with empathy. I see my role as someone to collaborate with you as you discover more of who you are, gain self-awareness of your emotions, and develop insight into how your past affects you currently.

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.’ I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
